Food Stamp Value is Eroding ![]()
A 2007 report explains the provision in the 1996 welfare reform law that halted the yearly inflation increase in the standard deduction that people take when figuring out how many food stamps they are eligible for. Before 1996, the standard deduction was increased for inflation, but since 1996 it has remained unchanged. Because of this, the value of food stamps is going down each year- even if individuals are receiving the same amount each year.

Estimates the number of eligible persons in each of Missouri's 114 counties and the City of St. Louis who are not receiving food stamps. There are 80 Missouri counties serving below the state average, with one county, Nodaway, as low as 21%. (May 2000)
